From Country to Coast
Catch up with artist Lindsey McLaren ahead of her exhibition in Whitley Bay
Hello!
This is the fourth in a series of spotlight articles featuring our paid members. You can read our previous one here. It has been such a brilliant experience opening up my inbox to creatives working across Northumberland and beyond! I have already met some wonderful people and it has been a pleasure hearing their stories and learning more about the work they are doing here in our small corner of the world. We hope you enjoy reading them too.
This week I am catching up with local artist Lindsey McLaren, ahead of the opening of her exhibition at the Wild and Free Gallery in Whitley Bay. The exhibition is “From Country to Coast” and is on from Sunday 12th May until Sunday 2nd June. Lindsey’s landscape paintings will be on display and there will be the opportunity to meet Lindsey on the opening day between 1pm and 4pm.
Lindsey McLaren is an accomplished contemporary impressionist artist living in the north east of England. She originally studied illustration and had a career in graphic design. During lockdown in 2020, taking time to enjoy the countryside and appreciate nature inspired her to learn to paint using the oils she inherited from her father.
Lindsey explores the natural beauty of the countryside and the coast, from north east England to Scotland, Devon, and the Cotswolds. She captures the natural landscape and the impact of human activity, such as farming and fishing on the land. Each of her pieces is carefully composed to create an experience that captures the essence of the moment.
Lindsey has also exhibited at The Customs House in South Shields, Washington Arts Centre and the Alnmouth Arts Festival.
She was recently Highly Commended in The Artist and Leisure Painter Open Competition for a portrait submission.
Lindsey accepts commissions upon request.
